Masterton - Hendry

The Rev. John G. Masterton, elder son of the late Rev. Alexander Masterton, of Dunscore Church, and of Mrs Masterton, 35 Queen's Crescent, Edinburgh, was married yesterday to Miss Catherine Love Hendry, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Fraser P. Hendry, 18 Blackford Road, Edinburgh. The bridegroom, who was educated at Sedbergh School and Edinburgh University, is at present senior assistant at St Cuthbert's Parish Church, Edinburgh. The wedding took place in North Morningside Church, and the Rev. J.S. Stewart, B.D., and the Rev. A.W. Burnet, D.D., minister of St Cuthbert's, officiated. The bridegroom's mother was unable to be present owing to a prolonged illness in London; his brother, Mr Alexander H.H. Masterton, C.A., was best-man.
The bride chose ivory brocade for her fitting wedding gown, which had a short full train cut in one with the skirt. Her veil, which was lent by the bridegroom's mother, was caught into a halo of lily-of-the-valley, and the same flowers were combined with larger lilies to form her bouquet. The bridesmaid, Miss Katherine Hunter, L.R.A.M., wore a picture frock of cyclamen taffeta and a "frivolous" headdress of anemones, velvet and taffeta. After the wedding Mr and Mrs Hendry held a reception in the Roxburghe Hotel.

MEMORIAL CHAPEL.
At a meeting of the Congregational Board held on Friday 27th May, the Rev. J.W.G. Masterton explained his desire that the Side Chapel should be converted into a memorial Chapel. It would entail a light carved, wooden screen, lectern, small communion table, carpet and several chairs. Mr Masterton thought that, in time, most of these articles would be gifted. Permission would require to be obtained from the General Trustees and the Presbytery. The meeting approved of this suggestion.

Mr Masterton reported at a meeting of the Congregational Board on Thursday 3rd November that a quotation of £700 had been received for erection of carved, woodwork screen at the chancel and that the donor had approved the quotation and therefore final drawings had been applied for.
