George Masterton (1880-1966)

George Masterton (1880-1996)

Jeweller

George Masterton owned a jeweller shop in Leven, Fife. Despite the hazards of running a business of some temptation to criminals, he at least had a prudent approach to security.

Genealogy

George Masterton was the youngest son of George Masterton, linen weaver, and Hannah Munro, who had married in 1858 in Scoonie. George therefore belongs to the large group of Mastertons that flourished in the Largo area. He married Margaret Anderson in 1907 in East Newport, Fife. Fuller details of his extended family can be found at this link.

The Scotsman

LEVEN SMASH-AND-GRAB RAID.- Thieves who threw a brick through a window of the jeweller's shop of Mr G. Masterton, High Street, Leven, in the early hours of yesterday morning were prevented from taking the most valuable jewellery on display by an iron grill stretching halfway up the window. Their haul consisted of £30 worth of gold cuff-links and gold rings.
