Eleanor Nicholson Masterton established a dressmaking business in Edinburgh which suffered a fire incident in 1887. By 1891 she and several siblings had moved to London.

Genealogy

Eleanor Nicholson Masterton was the seventh of eleven children of Robert Masterton, toll collector, and Eleanor Nicholson, who had married in 1845 in Edinburgh. Eleanor belongs to the large group of Mastertons that flourished in the Cramond area. She married John Smollet Tait in 1900 in London but died three years later. FIRES IN EDINBURGH - The Edinburgh Fire Brigade were yesterday called out in consequence of a quantity of umbrella covers in a cellar occupied by Mr John Smith, umbrella manufacturer, North Bridge, having become ignited.

Shortly after five o'clock a quantity of dresses in a window of the shop of Miss Ellen Orr Masterton, 15 Morrison Street, was destroyed by fire. The loss is not covered by insurance.
