Killed in Road Accident

James Masterton is reported in The Glasgow Herald as critically injured as a result of a road accident in Dalkeith after being knocked down by a fish van. The driver was detained.

James George Masterton was the fifth (fourth surviving) son of James Masterton, a fireman at Newbattle Paper Mill, and Marion Nimmo. He was deaf and dumb. DALKEITH. - SERIOUS ACCIDENT TO A DEAF AND DUMB BOY. - Yesterday morning a fish hawker named Edward Mulheron was remitted for eight days on a charge of having, through carelessness, driven his fish van over a deaf and dumb boy, eight years of age, named James Masterton, and residing with his father, a fireman at Newbattle Paper Mill, in Plummer's Close, Dalkeith. The boy was severely injured about the head, the base of the skull being fractured, and his condition is considered critical. The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon.
