Isabella Semple, widow of Adam Masterton of Torryburn, was much later in life fined in the Dundee Police Court for breach of the peace.

Genealogy

Isabella Semple married Adam Masterton, Torryburn, Fife, Scotland but Adam died three years later at the age of 27. She later appears to have married again, to a man named Slater. Her marriage to Adam places her as part of the Masterton family from Culrros for which details can be found at this link.

DEVOTIONAL EXERCISES.. - Isabella Semple, Masterton, or Slater, a middle-aged woman, was charged with committing a breach of the peace by cursing and swearing and annoying her neighbours in Scouringburn on Saturday night and Sunday morning last. She denied the charge. The neighbours gave evidence to the effect that the accused was the worse of drink, and created a great disturbance in the land. In her defence the accused said she was singing hymns in her own house, and was only beating time with her feet. She was at the Salvation Army from eight to ten o'clock, and had only one glass of ale. A fine of 20s or fifteen days in prison was imposed.
