George Masterton was convicted of assault after a fight with another weaver when he was 18 years old.

Genealogy

George Masterton was the second son of David Masterton, linen weaver, and Elizabeth Clark, his fourth wife, who had married in 1846 in Forfar then moved to Dundee. George was later to marry MArgaret Urquhart in 1875 and would have five children. He is part of the large Masterton family from Forfar and further details can be found by following this link.


Dundee Courier and Argus

George Masterton, weaver, Horsewater Wynd, pled quilty to having assaulted James Rutherford, weaver, residing there, within a weaving shop in Watt Square, on the 8th curt., and was fined 2s 6d. or two days' imprisonment.
