MONTROSE.

EXPLOSION OF GUNPOWDER.- About five o'clock on the evening of Wednesday last, a fearful explosion of gunpowder took place in the shop of Mr Masterton, ironmonger, High Street. It appears that one of the shop-boys, after lighting the gas, threw the match still burning on the floor, where it came in contact with a small quantity of powder which had previously been spilled, and by which the fire was communicated to the powder in a drawer in the counter, which exploded, bursting open the counter, and forcing out the glass in the windows and door and one of the window frames to the street with a fearful crash. The boy was severely burned about the face and legs. A good deal of damage is done to the goods in that part of the shop where the explosion took place, but, we are happy to say, not so much as might have been expected under the circumstances.
