Adam Masterton, employed as a Carter, had an unfortunate accident in 1888 when his horse kicked him on the head. He was to die 18 months later at the age of 56. His death registration certificate gives cause of death as acute bronchitis.

Genealogy

Adam Masterton was the eldest of six children of Adam Masterton and Agnes McQueen who had married in 1832 in Torryburn, Fife, Scotland. This places him as part of the Masterton family from Culross for which details can be found at this link.

SERIOUS ACCIDENT TO A CARTER. - On Tuesday, while Adam Masterton (52), carter, Mill Street, was bending down to lift the near hind foot of a horse, the animal kicked, and struck Masterton on the forehead, slightly fracturing his skull. He was also kicked by the horse after falling, and he sustained a severe cut on the back of the head when he fell. He was conveyed home in the ambulance waggon, and attended by Drs Drysdale and Luke.
